Buyer data guide
PET vs PP cups for iced drinks, boba and takeaway portions
Material choice should follow the actual use case, not a generic claim that one resin is always better. ECONOVAPACK's current source data covers PET cold cups and PP sauce cups, so the comparison below keeps those product roles explicit.
Application comparison
PET and PP are selected for different jobs
| Decision field | PET cold cups | PP sauce cups |
|---|---|---|
| Published use range | Cold beverages, iced coffee, juice, tea and clear presentation | Sauces, condiments, tastings, samples and portion control |
| Source capacities | 115–1,220 mL | 15–158 mL |
| Source rim families | 62, 78, 90, 92, 93, 95, 98, 107, 115 and 117 mm | 45, 62 and 75 mm |
| Clarity and appearance | Often selected when high clarity and drink presentation matter | Selected here for compact portion-cup formats |
| Matching lid material | PET lids in the supplied range | PET lids for the published PP cup range |

Choose the product system first
For iced coffee, juice, smoothies or boba, begin with beverage capacity, rim size, lid style and presentation. For sauces and condiments, begin with portion volume, closure security and how the cup is packed or dispensed.
If your project needs a PP beverage cup rather than a PP sauce cup, request that exact specification. Do not treat the sauce-cup data as proof of a different format's temperature or mechanical performance.
Ask for application evidence
Confirm the selected resin grade, food-contact scope and relevant documents for the destination market. Test the approved sample with the actual fill temperature, food or beverage, storage time, closure and transport conditions.
Custom printing is possible on the published ranges, but artwork, ink system, adhesion, color tolerance and setup cost are order-specific.
Specify iced coffee and boba as operating systems
An iced-coffee or boba package is more than a cup material. The buyer must coordinate drink volume, ice displacement, toppings, straw diameter, sealing film or lid, dome clearance, cup-holder fit and the length of time the drink stays in delivery. A clear PET cup may support product presentation, but the selected wall and rim still need an operational test. If the project uses heat sealing, ask for the exact sealing interface and equipment conditions; a snap-on lid approval does not prove film-seal compatibility.
For portion sauces, the critical questions are smaller capacity control, closing force, leakage after filling, nesting and how quickly staff can separate the cups. The attached PP series ranges from 15 to 158 mL and uses PET lids in three rim families. Test the smallest and largest planned portions because sauce viscosity, oil content and fill level can change the result.
Compare commercial data, not only resin names
Two quotations are comparable only when they use the same capacity, dimensions, unit weight, rim, lid, printing, inner packing, master-carton quantity and delivery term. A lower unit price can be offset by a larger carton, lower loading efficiency or a lid that must be purchased separately in a different ratio. Use the downloadable files to calculate pieces per carton, total cartons, CBM and gross weight before comparing freight.
Custom development can start from one piece for the published PET and PP ranges, and printing is available. That starting point does not make the master-carton quantity or the print production run disappear. Ask for the sample route, setup cost, bulk quantity and export packing as separate quotation lines so each decision remains visible.
Document the reason for the material choice
Create a short decision record for the approved product. Note the selected SKU, why its material and capacity suit the application, the tested fill and holding conditions, the matching lid, the print revision, the food-contact documents reviewed and the name of the approved physical sample. If the project changes from a sauce portion to a beverage, or from a cold drink to another temperature range, reopen the decision instead of reusing the old approval. This record helps a distributor answer customer questions and helps repeat orders stay aligned with the original operating need. It also gives ECONOVAPACK a clear basis for checking whether a proposed alternative is actually equivalent in dimensions, material, closure, packing and intended use.
