Why MOQ changes
Printing plates, material setup, machine changeover, color control and carton packing create fixed costs. Standard dimensions and existing materials usually offer more flexibility than a new mould, structure or special coating.
Four MOQ levels to request
Ask for stock unprinted, standard-size printed, mixed-SKU trial order and fully custom production options. This lets the supplier propose a lower-risk route without pretending every configuration can start at the same quantity.
How buyers can reduce a trial MOQ
Keep an existing size, use a standard material, limit print colors or coverage, consolidate artwork, accept standard export cartons and plan repeat orders. Lower quantities normally increase unit cost.
What to compare beyond quantity
Compare total landed cost, sample or setup charges, lead time, spare quantity policy, carton utilization and the cost of changing artwork later.
